How to upload video to computer using Sony Handycam 200x?
When it comes to the world of this sort of stuff, I am very much unintelligent. However, I am trying to figure out how to upload video from my Sony Handycam 200x camcorder to my computer. My computer is a Dell Dimension XPS T600r and has received pretty much no mods. I have tried an av-usb cord but Windows Movie Maker will not recognise the camcorder. What should I do? All sony consumer camcorders are tagged “Handycam”. The 200x refers to the digital zoom that camcorder can do.
You have not provided enough information to help you. We need the model number – it should be on a little sticker on the bottom of the camcorder and will look like DCR-HC96 or HDR-HC9 or DCR-DR45 or HDR-CX550…
MiniDV or Digital 8 tape means you must use a firewire cable (not USB) to connect the camcorder’s DV port (not USB) to the computer’s firewire port (not USB). firewire to USB cable/converter adapter things do not work.
So.. you connected the camcorder’s AV port with a cable that come in the box with the camcorder to a “converter” that gets the connection to USB. We don’t know which one you are using. Usually, when you use these, they come with software so the USB port will be recognized – but another application before the video is usable by MovieMaker.
Flash memory and hard disc drive camcorders connect to a computer with a USB cable, but you copy the files to the computer, transcode them to a useful format (using transcoders like MPEG Streamclip or HandBrake) that the video editor can deal with – like WMV.
After transcoding, THEN you can get the video into MovieMaker…
