Can a digital camera be connected to an old pc without usb?
I know a retired couple who would like to know if their camera can be connected to the computer…they run win 98….and have old hardware…your input would be helpful…any type of ps/2 or other device of that sort that can be used?
THIS IS AN OLD PC with no usb port…so it definitely has no card reader 
Well, without a model number, we can only make wild guesses as to possible solutions.
If they can get hold of an older camera that uses a serial connector, that would work, but it won’t be anywhere near as good as a modern one. (Lower resolution, etc.)
If the camera uses a CF card, there does exist an adaptor in the shape of a floppy disk that the CF card slots into, then you use it like a regular 3.5″ floppy disk.
You may be able to get a different cable from the manufacturer of the camera – one that has a serial port on the end instead of USB (likely to be expensive.)
I have not seen any adaptors that convert USB devices to serial ports, but they are available the other way around. If they have a spare PCI slot on their motherboard, a USB card can be connected, they are available for about GBP10-15 (So I imagine about USD5-10). You would need to make sure that the camera and card has available Windows 98 drivers though.
