How do I view digital channels?
I’ve heard that they are in decimal numbers? I scanned my tv and got 30 of them, but how do I view them and see if they are in HD? thanks.
I scanned for channels and found 30 digital channels. I want to see if any are in HD. How do I do that?
If you scanned for analog and digital channels, the way you can tell them apart is by the channel number indication. All analog channels will be whole numbers like 2, 12, 45 etc. All digital channels will have a decimal point or hyphen depending on your tv set. So if you see channels like 10.2 or 46-3 then you are looking at digital channels. You can tune digital channels by using the keypad on your remote. If you look closely you should see a decimal or hyphen (again depending on your tv). So to tune in channel 83.3 you would hit those buttons on your remote 8, 3, ., 3.
As to the question about how to tell if they are HD channels, this is simple. Locate the button on your remote that allows you to display channel information. Sometimes this is labeled “Display” but you may wish to consult your manual to be sure. When you hit that button channel information will come up. Sometimes you get what program is being received which can include the rating (TV-14) and if it has closed captioning available. Included with that will be the resolution being received. You should see 480i, 720p or 1080i. If you see 480i then that is an SD broadcast on a digital channel. If you see 720p or 1080i then you have HD. You have to be aware though that even if you see 720p or 1080i that is just the broadcast signal. The content may still be SD and may not be as clear as would real HD content.
