Help me look at dustmites under a microscope?
I got a 300x USB microscope today and I want to look at dustmites, what can you suggest?
PS. I have a 900x manual microscope yet the 300x USB is better, how does this work
Oh, I have a USB microscope too, but I am not sure of the magnification. I just removed the lense of an old webcam and made it so the webcam lies flat. It doesn’t work too bad.
I guess the first thing you have to do is find some dust mites. and put them on the camera.
You know you are not going to get those great electron microscope style shots.
Maybe the reason that you find the 300x better is that it works by reflected instead of transmitted light. (I am just guessing about how yours works.)
I have noticed a lot of the cheaper light microscopes lack proper light condensers below the stage too.
I have three light microscopes . Two are zeiss and one is a very old International with the variable drawtube.
There are a lot of times that they are almost usless simply because they are transmission scopes and the sample has to be thin enough for light to pass through.
There have been quite a few times I wished I had a lower powered scope set up as a disecting scope with the light shining on my sample from the same side I was looking at it instead of shining through it.
In fact there are a lot of times I don’t bother preparing a slide and just go with a set of 10>20x loupes and a 30x pocket scope.

Maybe if you patted down your matress with some sticky clear tape you could get some. They seem to like pillows and mattresses, lots of skin flakes to eat.
Look for them first at about 40 power so you have a larger field then when you see one you can increase the magnification.
