Determining the diameter of the field of view?
Hey guys, this question was on my biology homework and I need to show the work for it, but I’m very confused:
Suppose that you are given the following info about a particular microscope.
Low power diameter of field of your scope is 1400 um
Low power magnification is 10X
High power magnification is 35X
Calculate the diameter of the field of view under high power (that is, calculate the HPD).
PLEASE help me, thanks!
Traditionally it’s a mathematical relationship. Your 10x objective displays 1400 um. Your 35x objective will display 1400 um * 10 / 35 = 400 um
But here’s the caveat: You really need to confirm, by actually measuring the field of your low power objective, use low power to view an object and determine its size, the view the same object under higher power and from its size determine the actual field the higher power is displaying.
