What would be the aim and hypothesis of this experiment?
okay, so i conducted this experiment at school.
There were 6 beakers. each had a sucrose solution: 0.2M, 0.3M, 0.4M, 0.5M, 0.6M and 0.7M respectively.
In each beaker of sucrose solution there were some pieces of red onion.
We had to get one piece of onion from each beaker and peel off the epidermis. We then had to examine the epidermis from each onion under a microscope and count how many cells had plasmolysed in each of them.
It was found that the onions that were soaked in 0.2M, 0.3M and 0.4M sucrose solution had a low amount of plasmolysed cells, about 0% to 16%.
However, onions that were soaked in the 0.5M, 0.6M and 0.7M sucrose solution had a high amount of plasmolysed cells, about 50% to 100%.

To study the effect of various concentrations of hypertonic solution (sucrose) on the epidermal cells of onion (Allium cepa/Allium atrorubens)
Hypothesis:
Sugar solutions like sucrose are used as hypertonic solutions, to cause water to flow out from cells and hence results in plasmolysis of cells. Sucrose solutions of varied concentrations were used to produce plasmolysis in onion epidermal cells. It was observed that with increase in concentration of hypertonicity, there is also a proportional increase in plasmolysis of onion cells ranging from 0% to 100% as the concentration is increased from 0.2 M to 0.7M as recorded in the experiment
