What are Superfine 485, Fine 801, and Normal 1653?

—What are the Center Weighted Average, Evaluative, and Spot modes?—
This refers to the method the camera uses to determine the proper exposure. Center weighted reads the whole frame but puts more weight on what’s in the center of the frame. Evaluative reads the whole frame also but doesn’t adjust for the center. Spot reads the center only.
—What are Superfine 485, Fine 801, and Normal 1653?—
Superfine, Fine, and Normal are the different compression levels for your pictures. The higher the compression the lower the quality of the picture. The numbers refer to the approximate numbers you can take before your card is full.
—What do L 8M 3264×24485 (1653), M1 5M 2592×1944 (2300), M2 3M 2048×1536 (3527), M3 2M 1600×1200 (5291), and S 0.3M 640×480 (9999) do?—
This is the size of the picture. 3264×2485 is equal to an 8MP image, and is the largest your camera can take. M1, M2, M3, and S are all lower resolution settings. The lower the resolution you choose the smaller you will be able to print with good quality. The numbers in parenthesis are again the number of shots until your card it full.
Unless you are running out of storage room I would suggest leaving the camera at the highest settings. (Superfine, L 8M 3264×2485) You never know when you get that great shot and you don’t want to ruin it by shooting at to low a setting.
The auto/manual option is what controls the exposure settings. Unless you are familiar with things like shutter speed, f-stops and ISO, I would suggest leaving the camera on auto.
