Does my PC power supply affect my USB devices?
Recently bought a new desktop PC.
When i plug in my Western Digital Passport Portable drive – which runs off the PC’s power supply, Half the time Windows dosen’t pick it up, the other half, my Passport keeps switching on/off (almost as if there’s not enough electricity to keep it going).
The Passport works fine on every other PC though, and smaller USB sticks seem to work fine on the problem PC.
could it be i need a higher power supply?
You may need a powered USB hub for this to work. A lot of the USB hubs built into computers don’t supply a lot of power.
