SONY HANDYCAM HELP!?
I have a sony handycam like the one with 25x zoom and takes those small discs DV-R discs or something right?
But i have a mac and it says it doesnt work on a mac. WTF m i supposed to do now? I told my mom it was the perfect camera and the guy said it was perfect for a mac and stuff.
So whats going on here? Can it work on a mac? What am i supposed to do now? Is there anyway for it to be able to export videos onto my mac?
You didn’t say which Mac. Though most of the following can apply to Windows computers, too.
If the computer has a drawer loading DVD drive, then finalize the disc. Download and install HandBrake

Take the DVD out of the camcorder and put it in the Mac’s drawer loading DVD drive. Rip the video using HandBrake into a format iMovie likes… .mov, .dv, .mp4…
If the computer has only a slot loading DVD drive, NEVER put a small (8cm) or odd-shaped disc into a slot loader… Get an external drawer loader – I like (and own) one from LaCie

Or, you can get an analog/digital bridge…

but the conversion to analog then re-digitzed will reduce the video quality…
Or, take it back to the store where the camcorder was purchased and tell the ignorant salesperson to not talk about stuff they don’t understand and get a miniDV tape based camcorder and a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire (IEEE1394a, i.LINK, DV – all the same thing) cable and some miniDV tapes… like a Canon ZR900 or ZR930. Plus you get a mic jack in the deal to (though no manual audio control)…
Just so you know, DVD based camcorders provide the WORST available quality for editing – whether PC or Mac. Those camcorders should all be recalled and stripped of useful parts for recycling… or be used as a doorstop.
