Anyone own a celestron c8 goto telescope? if you do can you please let me know how you are finding using it?
Hi I am considering buying the celestron c8 goto telescope , just wanted to know others opnions on this before I purchase one.
Is the celestron c8 or c6 good to use for deep sky observations, for taking photos i know this can be done with a specific camera attached to it, if you have tried this, is it easy to locate the differnt planets using the goto device? are the images clear once you see them…is it an easy to use telescope?

I used to own a Celestron Nexstar 8 and currently own their CPC1100 model. By all means go with the C8 model. As one poster said, you will go through a learning curve, but it is not that hard to master the scope.
The goto features of the scope are nice. If you don’t have a lot of time to learn the sky (which is recommended) or have lots of down time between outings with the scope, then the scope does it for you, mostly automatically.
It is highly recommended that you set the scope up in your house first, so you get used to how everything go together (actually, try that several times, so it becomes routine). Just take your time and carefully read the instruction manual.
The first time you use the scope outside, try to set it up prior to it getting dark. That way, if there is a problem, you can better see whats wrong and fix it, rather then bumble around in the dark. Again, take your time. Don’t rush through the process, or you might get frustrated. The universe has been around for billions of years, so it can wait on you.
The next step (or do it concurrently), is find a local astronomy club. This is a great way to learn the ropes of the hobby and meet some new folks. there are several user groups within Y!A that cater to Celestron scopes as well -

Don’t concern yourself with astrophography yet either, that’s a whole different set of problems that is best left until you are comfortable with the operation of your scope. Again, you’ll have plenty of time for that as well.
